First new Crossrail train is delivered to London

tflcl345Transport for London and Crossrail seem to have been pretty quiet about the fact that the first of the new 200m long Bombardier Class 345 trains for the Elizabeth line was to be delivered to Ilford Depot yesterday afternoon (09/12/16) where we assume more testing will soon begin taking place.

New Elizabeth Line Class 345 at Ilford Depot.

The new trains are due to start service on TfL Rail from May 2017 replacing the current fleet of ageing trains currently on the route before being introduced on the line currently known as Heathrow Connect (Heathrow Express between Heathrow Central & Heathrow Terminal 4) in May next year and then eventually on all of the new line by December 2019. The new trains will initially be seven cars long from their introduction on TfL Rail but once all platforms works are complete in 2019 all trains on all Elizabeth Line routes will be nine cars long. The new trains will also be fully air conditioned and have on-board WiFi as well as useful real time information screens throughout all of the walk-through carriages.
